When Someone Else has Cancer – 5 Important Things to Remember

When a friend or family member diagnosed with cancer, your life can be thrown into turmoil. To help you keep grounded, stop and consider these 5 points:

1. This is not your fault. However tempted you to believe that cancer is the fact that you have done or not done, it is extremely unlikely to be. You are not to blame.
2. This is not your job to make them well. If you are a parent of a child with cancer, you probably will be involved in decisions about their treatment. In any other case, a person with cancer would choose the best course in consultation with a group of health professionals they want to attract. There are many things that they can do to influence the outcome of the disease. You may be called upon to provide support and assistance, and to receive their work and theirs alone.
